about
Pūtiki Bay is located to the south of Waiheke island, off the coast of Auckland, New Zealand. Kororā, also known as the Little Blue penguin, the smallest species of penguin, inhabit the the bedrock within the bay. A marina has been planned there since 2017 by a Swedish company, KPBL.
The proposed plans to remove rock piles from the bedrock and subsequent actions of KPBL have proven detrimental to the habitat and environment of the Kororā since construction began. Protect Pūtiki are a group made up of Ngāti-Pāoa, the local Waiheke community and individuals from all around Aotearoa who are concerned for the well-being of the Kororā colonies and their environment. Tangata whenua and allied protestors have endured abuse and threats at the hands of KPBL staff for peacefully occupying both the bay and pontoon, and served with trespass notices by police. The cause of Protect Pūtiki resonates with all who recognise human driven climate change and the affect it has on our native species. It is a sad display that organisations set up to protect our native species have failed to do just that.
NO MARINA.
